No Canadians have been killed or seriously injured in the writing of Brendan Gillen’s books.

l
At least, that’s what he says…

With seven books to his credit, Gillen is a poet, biographer, and writer of fiction. His writing reflects his schooling in life as a boy on the west coast of Ireland, as a young soldier in the British Army, a construction worker in Western Canada, and a wanderer on the hardscrabble streets of Vancouver’s downtown east side.

He writes with passion and brutal honesty in a three-book series about the breakup of his marriage. His edgy humour comes at you full-blast. And nobody depicts “Wet Coast” weather with such a variety of description and unabashed admiration.
.

His latest book of fiction High Noon in Stewart is an exciting romp through Canada’s northland from the point of view of an Irish-born, well-meaning lad who is searching for love and new experiences.

Gillen is well-read, a spouter of Shakespearean sonnets, a lover, and a fighter.

Surely, G.K. Chesterton
was describing the likes of Brendan
Gillen when he wrote:

“For the great Gaels of Ireland/
Are the men that God made mad/
For all their wars are merry/ And
all their songs are sad.”
